Information for Students Interested in Starting Campus Co-ops

North American Students of Co-operation Organization (NASCO) is the student (or campus) co-operative owned support agency for campus co-ops (primarily housing) in Canada and the United States. Their website has information for co-operatives in their formative stages on how to organize and obtain funding (including the full text of their Organizer's Handbook).

Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) is the national umbrella organization for anglophone co-operatives in Canada. There is a youth section on this website that can be helpful for youth to see what opportunities exist for them in the co-operative sector. There is a section on how to start a youth co-op and contacts at CCA available to assist these co-operators as well.

Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada is the national organization that represents Canada's housing co-operatives, including some campus co-operatives since membership is open to all housing co-operatives in Canada. There is a section on student co-ops that can be useful to students interested in learning more about the movement. It also outlines the new fund that will be available to student co-operatives for application in the near future.

Government of Canada's Co-operative Secretariat has a good website for general co -operative development in Canada. Although there is no specific information about student co-operatives, the information found here is directly related to the steps that a group of students would go through if creating a co-operative.

Saskatchewan Economic and Co-operative Development is a provincial agency that is mandated to assist in co-operative development strategies. They do not currently have programs designed for student co-operators' use, but their services for other co-ops are extended to students as well. In addition, there is contact information on the website.
